Not enough info. Describe your internet setup, your operating system, firewall and
security software, etc.
Did any version ever work?

Hello, I am having the same problem but I am not sure if it is vista causing the trouble. I am using Vista, zonealarm, DSL, router, Avast, and that's all I can think of. Can you give me any help? When I open Limewire it never connects, it always stays at one bar and says I am currently connecting to the internet??

I just downloaded limewire and when I first opened it I saw it wouldn't connect. I have the most up to date version of Java platform. I have never tried another version because this computer is relatively new.

Did you set Zonealarm to trust LimeWire as a server (http://www.portforward.com/english/softwarefw/ZoneAlarmPro/ZoneAlarmProindex.htm).
Did you set up the router for LimeWire (http://www.portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Limewire/Limewireindex.htm)?

I have set zonealarm to trust limewire but I cannot find my lynksys nh1005 on the router list??

I can't find it by that number. Is there a dash or additional number on the end?
How to find Model number? (http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3655)

After looking at the router more I also notice a Network Everywhere logo on the router. Could possibly be network everywhere brand not linksys. The only numbers on the router are NH1005 with no dashes, also says fast ethernet 10/100 5port hub.

I'm having the same problem it's getting bugged at 12% on the "Loading HTML Engine". First when I have installed it yesterday it were working I could download what I want bu today when I try to get on it's getting stuck at 12% I'm using Vista, DSL, router and McAfee SecurityCenter
Aaron.Walkhouse

Try all 5 of the Network Everywhere routers on the routewr page and one might work the same way.
I'm starting to hear a lot of people getting stuck at 12%.
I wonder if there's a fix for that yet.

I use 4.14.8 and I've had no problems with it getting stuck at 12%. If you're using an older version try the latest stable version.

I have really tried a ton of things (checking my ip address to make sure it's not private etc). There is one other thing I should add to help with diagnosis tho, about 3 weeks ago my son screwed up my ge-force 8200 graphics card as well as alot of other programs so I was forced to do a complete system restore(from very beginning) needless to say he's not allowed on comp anymore, but after restore I had to upgrade to new lw and then all my problems started. before restore I never had an issue with 4.12 version. I've even tried to go back to 4.12 but it won't work (does the same thing). I've even deleted the pref folder for limewire as well as the java to fix the problem but all with no luck.

It's probably one of those temporary blocks by AT&T again. They are providing the
backbone for your ISP. These blocks usually expire after a few weeks.

before replying I just wanted to say thanks for everyones help on getting my lw back up. but as for at&t blocking me, I just don't think thats the cause. My lw was working great with my old computer as well as my new one untill I did the complete reboot of my system (which only took about an hour) so I just don't find it concieveable that they would pick that exact hour to block me. But I do understand what you're saying (after some research ) I did find at&t to be the backbone of mediacom but being very few instances of blocking p2p's in my area ( GA) I just don't think thats it.It's pretty much process of elimination being that after complete reboot all my problems started as well as bear share and shareaza both work on my computer right now (really slow tho) but I can't pull any streams from G1 on shareaza (being Gnutella network). I've even had messages through my shareaza that says there's a stealth firewall in place and I just don't understand how only lw can be blocked. Any and all help is greatly appreciated because I've went all the routes that I know to go on this.

Also I wanted to reply that I know this is beta forums but I was routed here by another admin from the general vista forums (because they could'nt figure my problem out but thought people here would have a better idea)
Thanks again for all you're help.

lol.... well I won't comment on that being that everyone has been really trying hard to help me out, and also being hard to diagnose a problem without being in front of a computer is very understandable. I thought by them sending me here it was more of a compliment to this forum by you guys being able to advise on the harder problems. But at this point i really don't think there is a resolve. I've been trying to fix this thing for weeks now and it would probably be easier to delete LW for good being that I can't fix it.

One thing you could try.. it worked for me.
Put an exception rule in your Firewall for Limewire.exe
memyselfi
September 23rd, 2007, 06:47 PM
I've already made exceptions in firewall for lw and it didn't help... Also I don't really know whats going on but If it is concerning me (about previous posts or any angry replies) I really didn't intend to make anyone mad, If I did then I am sorry for being so bothersome

I just ran a check through shields up to check my ports and it says there all in stealth mode?
Total elapsed testing time: 5.023 seconds
Solicited TCP Packets: PASSED — No TCP packets were received from your system as a direct result of our attempts to elicit some response from any of the ports listed below — they are all either fully stealthed or blocked by your ISP. However . . .
Unsolicited Packets: PASSED — No Internet packets of any sort were received from your system as a side-effect of our attempts to elicit some response from any of the ports listed above. Some questionable personal security systems expose their users by attempting to "counter-probe the prober", thus revealing themselves. But your system remained wisely silent. (Except for the fact that not all of its ports are completely stealthed as shown below.)
Ping Reply: RECEIVED (FAILED) — Your system REPLIED to our Ping (ICMP Echo) requests, making it visible on the Internet. Most personal firewalls can be configured to block, drop, and ignore such ping requests in order to better hide systems from hackers. This is highly recommended since "Ping" is among the oldest and most common methods used to locate systems prior to further exploitation.

I got the same results when I tested my firewall and as I can connect, I don't think it can be that.
The only thing you've not tried is updating drivers.
Have you updated Vista since you did a system restore?
Clutching at straws :(

Hello everyone,
My limewire (v4.14.10) does not connect on vista when logged in as a standard user (non administrator user). For administrator users, it works great. I do not want to do the "run as administrator" since I would have to give the admin password to my kids.
BTW, I noticed that in the limewire feature history this entry:
4.13.7 (06.13.2007)
- Updated to not need Administrator privileges on Vista to work properly.
Any help would be appreciated.
Aaron.Walkhouse

Wait. Vista exposes the password when you do that? It shouldn't.
Give it a try and see if a non-admin user can see the password anywhere.
nibbler22
September 25th, 2007, 10:36 AM
vista does not "expose" the password, but rather it prompts you for the admin password. This means anytime my child fires up lw, I have to be there to enter the password. Very inconvenient.

sorry it took so long for a reply, been really busy. I've checked my vista for updates for the drivers and it says their up to date so at this point I'm lost. I've went to the new (and old) versions of java, I've deleted the pref folder, run as admin, deleted temp folder, went thru the new as well as the older versions of lw (deleting the previous versions completely of course), disabled firewalls, deleted norton 2007 and installed avg, used offline installer for lw also deleting java installed by lw before running, checked modem for firewall, checked isp for blocks (which if there was my other p2p programs wouldn't work, changed the listening port for LW, I have seriously been pulling my hair out over this junk.I don't have a clue of what to do now and really, really don't understand why this doesn't work all of a sudden just because of a complete restore. So if anybody has any other suggestions please throw them at me.
I sincerely appreciate everyones input and help on this matter even thou it's not fixed yet it's the thought that counts.
Aaron.Walkhouse
September 25th, 2007, 09:30 PM
If that was the only gnutella P2P app you have then yes, AT&T is probably blocking it.
You could try BearShare (http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-discussion/53386-bearshare-has-been-sabotaged.html) (also a gnutella servent) to see if that is blocked too.

vista does not "expose" the password, but rather it prompts you for the admin password. This means anytime my child fires up lw, I have to be there to enter the password. Very inconvenient.Move the Shared and Incomplete folders into a common area instead of inside your
profile. Try setting the security of all the folders involved so that everyone has
access. That might allow you to use it without admin access.

be careful moving folders with Vista, you could encounter the Limewire Disk Problem, if so the then locate the origional folder, or
There was a folder in my limewire folder called .NetworkShare
the path to this on my Vista machine is, my computer - Local Disk (C - program files - limewire - .NetworkShare
you may find that any folder in the limewire folder can work, I don't know, but if you can find this one, use it.
good luck

I would just like to have my kids login normally as standard users and start using lw. Is anyone here from lw support who can talk about the highlighted item below from the feature history:
4.13.7 (06.13.2007)
---
- Rewrote upload code to be much more efficient, use less resources, and upload
much faster.
- Updated international support so that files containing foreign characters can
now be properly launched, deleted, etc... on Windows 2000+.
- Fixed to now wors properly when installed outside of Program Files on
international versions of Windows.
- Updated to not need Administrator privileges on Vista to work properly.
- Fixed for downloads occasionally stalling if the disk becomes backed up.
- Workaround some more freezing network activity in earlier versions of Java.
- Reduce the memory required when someone performs a browse host on you.
- Warn people running in a beta or early release version of Java 1.6.0 that
there will be problems.
- Added an option to delete files directly instead of always moving to the
recycle bin (or trash), when deleting files from the library.
- Fixed the sizing of the Options window when font sizes are changed.

while messing around with limewire (which is forever stuck on one bar) i decided to check my firewall. Something clicks in my mind, and i reaize i probably need to go to the 'add program' function and add the newest version of limewire to my exceptions list.
so i tried to do that, but i get this message that says "limewire 4.14.3 is already there" or something. is there any way for me to remove it from my allowable list and set limewire 4.18.8 as the one of my list of exceptions?
