When I try pausing a few downloads at the same time the system freezes! I have to end program from task manger! It never did it before!!! I just recently upgraded to the latest version of Limewire. That's when it started happening! I have a Windows XP 2nd edition pc. My previous version of Limewire, I think version 4.10 worked absolutely flawlessly! What the heck happened to it??? I tried a reinstall of the latest ver again, but still same problem!!!

Very annoying please help!!!

Just before it happens, try making a debug log on com.limegroup.gnutella.downloader and save it to a .txt file so the devs can try and work out what's happening.

I recently upgraded to 4.14.8 and boy, was that a big mistake. Pausing a download via a right click or using the button on the panel frequently locks up the program and requires ending it through the task manager. When I reload the program, there are then 2 limewire icons in the lower right corner.

Sometimes, the program locks up for no good reason at all. It just does it.

The version I used to use never did this. There is no upside to using the newer version. I want a retrograde.

To "The Bobster" it's the same exact thing that happens to me. Exactly!

To "Judge Zargabaath" Sorry, how do I do what you want me to do? I guess I need instructions. I did some more testing, it did not freeze up when I just opened limewire and left it alone without clicking any buttons in it. As soon as I select a few current downloads (to pause) either via right click or "pause" button in Limewire, it freezes. No delay time. So not sure which log file to get you. The log before the freeze or after the freeze? If it's after the freeze, can I still get the log file? I have to close down LW through Task Manager. No other way to close it. Or can I access this log file through a different method while LW is still open and in 'Freeze" status?

By the way, "I Think" it doesn't freeze if I "pause" one download at a time. Tried it like once or twice and I think it was ok. But multiple pauses at the same time froze LW!

Any help would be greatly App'd!!!

Also, does anyone know if this problem is related to the version of Java on my pc??? When I looked at the "System Requirements" of the new version of LW, it said nothing of a particular version of JAVA that is needed to run it. Just a thought...

An additional bit of information, I think the latest ver of LW uses alot more memory than the prvious versions. My system seems to be running slower when LW is open and downloading. HAS anyone elso come across this in their travels? All I have to say is Boo Hoo to Limewire for making the latest product more memory intensive! Like I mentioned previously, the ver 4.10 that I had before was flawless. DOES anyone know how to downgrade to version 4.10??? Thanks again!!!

I pause only one download at a time and it freezes, so I don't think the lockup is related to pausing multiple downloads at the same time. It also appears that once the screwup happens, it's more likely to recur unless you turn off your computer.

And yes, I, too, think my computer runs slower when LW is running.

Ever heard of the commonly used phrase "All java programs are quite memory-intensive"? That might give you a clue to why it's running a little slower.

There IS no time before it freezes. The console page is blank before the freeze and LW is locked up afterwards, so you can't go anywhere.

After experiencing a bunch of freeze-ups yesterday, LW just stopped downloading and uploading even though everything else appears normal. All the status numbers are frozen.

Can anyone else reproduce this?

Hey Judge, thanks for the info, I'll try it and see what happens! Although I'm not happy with the fact that it locks up! I may just stop using LW!

It's seems that Bobster tried to log the errors already.

ON my end, it does NOT freeze if I pause Just ONE download at a time. It seems ok. I tried that extensively yesterday. It's when I pause many at a time.

As far as memory intensive yeh i guess Java apps are pretty big and do that. But it seems that the latest version of LW is considerably dragier that the previous one that I had, which is 4.10 I think.

If the devs will review the data than I'll try what you said and send it over!

Oh did I ask, do you think it has something to do with the Java version I have?????

Appreciate your help Judge! And Bobster thanks for your input, I guess every little bit helps!

SAM, btw are you a developer for LW?

One additional thing I noticed about the newest ver of LW,,, It takes longer to connect to the the network than the older versions.

Does anyone know why that is?

OK Kids, an update!!!!!

"Judge" - I have Absolutely NO time from the time I click Pause to the time it Freezes! It's instantaneous. It would be nice if there was some time...lol, this way I can save the log file and send it over! So no dice on that one. Note to "Bobster" - I think you have to click "apply" after you made the selections that Judge had suggested for it to start logging info, hence at that point it should start showing the corresponding info on the screen.

To "Judge" and "Sam" - Something worth mentioning - I tried the pausing 2 or 3 times on multiple downloads that were not actively downloading (such as downloads that were in "waiting on busy hosts", "awaiting Sources" etc... status) and those file did pause OK and DID NOT Freeze! Like I said I only tried that a couple of time. I was actually happy about that and thought you guys fixed the problem already through whatever phsychic and subliminal powers you guys have!!! :)

However,

Here's the BUT, --- But when I selected a few ACTIVELY downloading files and tried to Paused those, unfortunately it DID Freeze!!! It froze instantly!

Although, I should let you know that this all took place while LW was still trying to connect to the network (with one green bar I think). It was NOT fully connect at the time of this test.

There's the update - thanks for your help guys!!! :)

Which operating system are you guys using? Where on disk are you downloading the files to? Does it happen with files of any size?

Yes, zab & I are LimeWire devs.

it may be unrelated, but what types of files were you downloading? audio/video/images/documents/programs? were there any special characters in the filenames?

also, does it read "pausing" or "paused" when the program freezes?

thanks

It doesn't read pause when it freezes. It just locks up on whatever status it had.

Now my downloads are just stopping for no reason at all and it's hard to tell that it's doing it. You have to look at the download time and see that it doesn't change. At this point, all the other functions work and you can go from screen to screen.

I'm tried of dealing with this. Just give me back the old version. BTW, I use Windows XP.

... when I selected a few ACTIVELY downloading files and tried to Paused those, unfortunately it DID Freeze!!! It froze instantly!Same complaint we've been getting for some OSX users at gnutella forums. But it started with LW 4.14.8 & continues to be a problem. It was my uneducated & untested outside guess it may be related to Mojito. Since there is an option to disable Mojito, it might be worth trying to see if it does make any difference. (ie: Advanced options -> Performance.)

SpY0o2 asked above for some more information on when & why things were going wrong. The problem can't be fixed unless we can reproduce it.

LimeWire v4.14.10, Windows XP
mojito thing doesn't work for me. It still freezes.
one more thing I noticed is it only freezes during the "downloading" status of file thread.
If I pause when it says "Connecting..." it pauses alright.
