June 21st, 2006, 10:23 PM
LimeWire 4.12 is released! This is the first major update of LimeWire since 4.10.9 was released over 4 months ago.

LimeWire 4.12 is a major improvement to LimeWire, including many new and improved features to keep LimeWire safe, secure, and speedy. This release contains support for 'secure results', which will prevent spammers from sending search results that could open a browser window. LimeWire 4.12 also features the ability to enable content filtering (http://filtered.limewire.com/learnmore/contentFiltering/). The core of LimeWire has been completely rewritten to use less memory, resources, and be overall nicer on your computer.

There's a ton of minor improvements, many of which have been requested for years. Changes like:
- Sorting the bitrate correctly.
- A prettier LimeWire icon when using alt-tab.
- Easier ways for people to change LimeWire's language.
- LimeWire PRO will always show a PRO splash, regardless of the theme.
- A prettier setup wizard.
- LimeWire respects the OSX dock & Windows taskbar when sizing itself.
- Not displaying the 'No Internet Connection' dialog multiple times.
- The ability to append (#) and use that as a default when downloading (contributed by MaTZ!).
- A 'Search More' feature to get more results without erasing the current ones (contributed by Philip Schalm!).
- Automatic configuration of the Windows firewall.

For the complete list of changes since 4.10.9, see LimeWire's feature history (http://www.limewire.com/english/content/features_history.shtml) page.

LimeWire also now ships with translations in over 20 languages, thanks to the hard work of everyone who has contributed a translation! LimeWire is translated into Bosnian, Danish, German, Spanish, Estonian, French, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Portugeuse (Standard), Portugeuse (Brazilian), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Albanian, Turkish, Chinese (Traditional), Greek, Finish, Indonesian, and Norwegian! You can help translate LimeWire (http://www.limewire.org/translate.shtml) to see LimeWire in your language.

And this isn't it... Starting in the next beta series, LimeWire will feature BitTorrent integration and a custom DHT. Keep a look out for what's next!

Thanks,

I haven't tried the official version yet (still using the 4.12.1 beta) but I can see that it answers quite a few concerns of people such as the spammers that use the popup windows (#1: seemed to only affect IE on windows.) Bitrates is a major plus. And the others! Well done fellas! ;)

Edit: #1: I should have refered specifically to n***ster when refering to only opening up in IE (despite default browser.) Other sponsored results open up in your present or default browser.

I tried to d/l 4.12.3 Pro from my d/l page and it gives me 4.10.9 Pro:confused:....Am I doing something wrong or is the link wrong.

It might be a windows issue ... ah ah a a tissue!!!! Win downld link might have an issue! I did also downld it but to my mac & not win. The mac version 4.12.3 downlded fine. It did give me a request as to what program should open it ... (choose which app) but also gave option of open anyway. (a bit scary for a moment!) Very initial loading was very fast .... zipped thru the 1st part of the process ... need to restart it to specify which part. lol :D

Good Morning, i don't know if this is the place to ask this question? I am new to this forum. My question is I just downloaded LimeWire 4.10.9 about a week ago. Now when I went to the hompage of LimeWire I see 4.12.3 is out and My question is 1. Do I have to download the new version or dose it self and if it dose do it self how will I know. I don't want the beta version to load. I would reather wait for the offical version. So if someone can tell me what I do I would apprecate that I am new to this. Plus I a older person trying to learn the new. with this program and the computer. Thank you for any help.

We're going to signal the network of the release in a few days. If you want it before then, you can download the update from the website.

So long as you don't download it from the beta page, it won't be a beta.

Probably a cache issue: the Pro page correctly shows 4.12.3 and the beta link has been removed.

Hi lava1 What I advise you to do is keep your version of 4.10.9 archived. If you have the installer for it, that is all you need to keep. Otherwise copy the entire application folder onto disk or another drive, or at least out of your applications location. You may, as I have, find problems with 4.12.3 and want to return to the old version.

You need to downoad the new version and if you do it from http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml without clicking the Beta link, you will get the official 4.12.3 version. (4.12.3 was also the name of the last Beta version ..just to cause a little confusion :)

If you install the new version, it will delete the old version, but if you archived a copy, it will not delete the copy. It will take over the preferences and settings you chose for the previous version.

Strictly speaking you should have posted in the Gnutela forums, where you might like to go if you need to know anything else, at http://www.gnutellaforums.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=7, but If you'ld rather send me a private message with any queries, that's fine by me. Click on my name and select "Send Private Message"

Hobo :)

AH.... I see you fond the Gnutella forums lol :):)

Thanks for the replys. I've sorted the problem, though not sure exactly how.

I had originally tried to install over the old version and it installed 4.10. Then I uninstalled LW and sent everything to the recycle bin, tried it again and same thing 4.10. The thing was that when I'd click to d/l 4.12 it instantly came up that the d/l was complete. It should have taken a little time to finish.

So I used CCleaner to fix the registry and I d/led it again and this time it installed properly. So maybe it was a registry problem, but it was on my end.

Thanks again for the replys:).

Edit: I also ran CCleaner the regular way which would have cleared the cache as stief had suggested.

Would we have to pay another fee for this new version of limewire, and how do we get it?

Only A Hobo

The basic version of Limewire is free. If you have purchased the pro version from www.limewire.com (where you can also get the basic version) within the last 6 months for US$18.88 then you will be able to get this version free from the pro download page.

I hope this answers your question :)

I have more than one version of LW on my computer with the earliest being 4.8.1
I noticed magnet links seem to open 4.8.1 instead of 4.12.3  Annoying if I'm not prepared for it (loading incompletes.)

I hadn't used 4.8.1 for quite a few months (since very early 4.10.x). Not sure why 4.8.1 should be the default magnet handler unless it's related to browser history or something. It's fine if 4.12.3 is already open. I guess I should stuff/zip 4.8.1

I didn't have LimeWireDLFilesAutoBackUps turned on. oh well. I got caught out!

Lord of the Rings

That's odd! Despite having to resume all downlds from the incompletes yesterday, Today I started LW & one music concert file 131 MB started downlding immediately from a bearshare client at 15-20 KB/s & from 25%. Now 28%. Hmm that's ok. (although checking the incomplete folder it's actually 96 MB in size.) That never used to happen ... they always started from zero %

BTW if anybody has the time to answer ... once upon a time in OSX, we could rename the LW program to give it a version no. I've noticed for some time we can't do that any more. Is there any reason this has been disallowed? Does it have something to do with permissions of the receipts file? I've tried changing permissons to no avail.

LimeWire has no control over this. The only thing it can say is that it supports the "magnet" protocol and LaunchServices (http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Carbon/Conceptual/LaunchServicesConcepts/index.html) selects the first best handler in alphabetical order. LaunchServices does also some caching which can lead to odd behavior like you're seeing right now.

Not with the permissions of the receipts file but with the permissions of /Applications/LimeWire and what's in it. Try to repair the permissions of your System...

This is a newish feature. Whenever LimeWire resumes an incomplete file that has something already written to disk, if it doesn't have any data on what was written, it will scan the entire file when it receives the first Tiger Tree. So, the initial resume will show it as 0%, but once it connects to and starts downloading from another client, the percentage will bump back to what it used to be.

I actually made a typo in one of my posts. I meant to say "or receipts file?" not "of the receipts file?". I'm a bit nervy about changing prefs (ownership) for the apps folder on OSX. Since some osx (particularly earlier ones) apps require installation only into the osx apps folder. I tried anyway some time back for that folder & it appeared to make no diff. I can always try again. The apps folder is generally owned by the system.

BTW a couple of files I resumed/find sources for also started from an advanced state instead of zero %. Great stuff!!! Excellent! +++

Edit: that represented 10% of what I selected for find sources after 3-4 selects.

After all, this is arguably where this issue mostly surfaces.

Cybertoad,
If you're having problems with blank/grey screen, you should probably go to the tech support area
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=7

Use the search to look for grey screen, blank screen or loading blank... you'll find a few threads with different fixes which might help;)

I emailed Techsupport havent heard back yet.
I have tried those as solution no luck, but I think I found a work around.
which kinda bites but works for now.

It I disable (or close) IE and or OE the program seem ok. its not affected by yahoo mesanger or stuff like that so I am still trying to figure wht it locks up to where I have to use cntl /alt/ del to get out.

Cybertoad,

In practice it is best with this sort of problem to go to the Gnutella forums as birdy suggested. I know you have paid for pro and feel that pro support is what you should get, but the fact is that you are just as likely to get answers in the Gnutella forums, and you will most likely get a quicker, and possibly more helpful answer. :)

Also what Sam said lol :D:D

That's unless you like people swapping/sharing LW Pro versions on Gnutella.
