Should OSX users set Java Preferences for TLS 1.0?

The OSX /Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE\ 5.0/Java\ Preferences.app/ Advanced tab shows TLS1.0 unchecked by default.

Now that LW is using TLS, should the box be checked?

No clue. LimeWire will automatically detect if it can use TLS or not on the computer and not even bother trying to use it if the computer doesn't support it. You can generally tell if TLS is in use if there's some "SSL Overhead" in the connections tab when connected to any 4.14.8+. If no connections ever show it, TLS is turned off.

TLS is used to encrypt your connections so ISPs will not be able to know what it is that you are doing. So DEFINITELY, keep it activated.

Note: Developers dedicate a long time to implement improvements to software. So please, do not just deactivate because it "Uses more of your CPU". Personally, I use gtk-gnutella (it is similar to LimeWire but written in C not in Java). It uses only 1%-2% of my CPU even with TLS enabled.

Newer CPUs have been improved to encrypt faster than older CPUs, so if LimeWire uses a lot of your CPU, it is probably because your CPU is old.
