View Full Version : Sensitive file types checkbox in setup not respected

I unchecked the "Sensitive . . . " in the initial setup, but when checking through the options after startup, the check was back in the box. Not sure why it didn't save from the setup.

I liked the "View my files" link: it makes good use of the filters too. The "Quality" checkmark would be perfect for a checkbox beside each file.

(I really dislike the whole process of picking on text; the "learn more" was benumbing and disheartening. I hope the loss of the advanced tools will be replaced by a plugin. I want to get rid of the LimeStore folder and options and commercialization of gnutella. I wish I could use LW to search the 1.5 M texts of the http://www.ulib.org/ rather. I'll shut up now).

Hmm, that 'Sensitive' checkbox sounds like a bug. We'll fix that.

Not quite sure what you mean by the Quality checkmark being a checkbox? It sounds neat, whatever it is. :)

Could you describe what you mean by 'the whole process of picking on text'? We're not trying to flood people in text, but we are trying to make it *extremely* clear how people can share or not share things. P2P programs have unfortunately been beat up in the press and various places because people share what they shouldn't be sharing. We want people to know exactly what they're sharing and how they can stop sharing. While most people would think it's common sense, a lot of people are just clueless when it comes to computers, and really need the text and pictures to explain things. So, we added the 'Learn More' links for those people. It'd be too much information to put into the program (and a lot of people would just ignore anything with that much text), but it's very useful for people who need to learn more.

What advanced tools were lost?

I don't think we're going to get rid of the LimeWire Store folder. We're trying to make it fit and be as seamless as possible, without taking away from any of the existing experience.

We're trying very hard to add features (some of which may be controversial) without taking anything away. It's hard to do, but I think we can do it right.

Not quite sure what you mean by the Quality checkmark being a checkbox? In the search tab that results from the "View My <n> Shared Files" link, the Quality column shows a green checkmark. It 's a nice intuitive place for a share/unshare checkbox. I tried clicking it to see if I could 'unshare' a file that way :)
Could you describe what you mean by 'the whole process of picking on text'? The beta setup basically makes .doc, .txt, and .pdf unshared by default. Users will just click through the setup.
One hacker writes a script to search for text files, Mark G gets called to Washington, and within a few weeks LW makes documents in effect unshared. I wish Microsoft had to answer as quickly for the botnets that capitalize on Windows and IE vulnerabilities. This seems unfair and disheartening for the way gnutella is so quickly called to account for a hacker. Inadvertent document shares are thus dealt with much more quickly than inadvertent music shares.
What advanced tools were lost?
?. All. Only "Mojito Arcs View" now shows in the OS X Advanced menu. Whew. Hope that's a bug rather than an intentional change.
I don't think we're going to get rid of the LimeWire Store folder. We're trying to make it fit and be as seamless as possible, without taking away from any of the existing experience. It is quite seamless, but since I almost never search for music, I have no need for the store and folder. Any chance of an opt-out option, or making the default folder a sub-folder of the shared? It's a clean-up thing. I dislike having my /Home level filling up with unused folders. ;)
We're trying very hard to add features (some of which may be controversial) without taking anything away. It's hard to do, but I think we can do it right.I understand, and wish you well. However, if I want commercialization, there's iTunes and more. I like LW for its "open" focus, and that's why I suggested a move towards using LW as a research tool to the http://www.ulib.org/ This would help compensate for the likely loss of document searches.

One more problem noted: the firewall icon persisted much longer on startup than in previous versions. Settings and connections all looked normal, so I had to go to a different machine (different IP) to direct connect before the bricks would go from the globe. Later, the brick wall was back, then later yet (no intervention), it was gone. Not sure what's happening here, since nothing in my setup changed, and the server bypasses the router and is directly connected to the cablemodem.

That's a good idea. Currently you can right click (at least under Windows and Linux, not sure what the mac equivalent is) on a shared item and have the option to stop sharing

That sounds like another bug.

We can look into possibly putting all these folders into a root LimeWire folder. Its a bit incovenient but you can reset the location of the LimeWire Store folder and then delete the folder yourself.

We did remove the Advanced Statistics. Most of the statistics were very wrong, and the codedesign of the package made it very hard to update. Even the way translations were setup for it was hard, which made redoing the translation system a pain. So we decided just to nuke it. We do have long-term plans of adding a plugin API, which would make adding it back very easy (and necessarily better designed).

Thanks Mike and Sam

re the stats, could you at least add the bandwidth indicator back?

Better yet, put session cumulative totals (up and down) on the status bar.
I need the totals to monitor staying within ISP caps.

Which bandwidth indicator? The one in the statusbar showing upload/download bandwidth? That should still be there.

Cumalative totals would be a neat idea. Wanna add a JIRA for it? :)

yes, status bar up and down (current) is there.

Does the status bar support mouseover text? (terminology? hovering?)

If so, hovering over the current status bar bandwidth indicators to show average and cumulative stats for the bandwidth used in the session would be really useful.

FYI, this is now fixed. See: https://www.limewire.org/jira/browse/LWC-1162 .
