Hello: I can't get the support people at LW to respond to my bug reports and request for help emails including attaching hs_err_pid****.log files. So, I'm repeating my report here. Perhaps one of you can help:
3rd time bug report
Problem / Bug: Limewire loads normally but shuts down within a minute or two. No error messages.
Limewire Version: 4.15.1 / beta or Limewire 4.14.12
Java Version: 1.6_03 or 1.6_02
OS: Vista Business / Running as Administrator / User Account Control: off
Firewall: Windows
Anti Virus: GRISoft AVG
Internet Connection: DSL
Computer: ThinkPad X60Tablet
RAM: 3GB / HDD 40GB free
All software updated to most recent available.
Tried running under all compatibility modes
Tried installing / uninstalling / installing several times. Uninstalling included removing everything including all limewire registry entries.
Nothing works.
So please tell me what's wrong. TXS. EM

Can you attach the hs_err_pid files here?
Thanks.

Sam: I don't think the attachments "took." Here's another try. EM

I searched around on the web and found a few solutions.
One person said it was a conflict with 'AllChars', at http://www.mail-archive.com/users@argouml.tigris.org/msg00213.html . Removing/disabling AllChars fixed it.
Another said it's been fixed in the early-access next releases of Java6. See the last few posts at: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5231227&tstart=135 .
Could you give either of those fixes a shot and let us know how it goes?
Thanks. :)

Well, I'll be... It doesn't get more obscure that that, does it? Following your suggestion I disabled AllChars et voilą! LW now runs properly, at least so far.
Many thanks, Sam, for looking into this and compliments on your resourcefulness. You restoreth my faith in tech support... I'll drop a note to the author of AllChars to let him know about the problem.
Best wishes for '08. EM

LimeWire and FrostWire both work fine with JRE 1.6 update 10. Use this pre-release if this happens when you don't have AllChars. http://www.java.net/download/jdk6/6u10/promoted/b09/binaries/jre-6u10-ea-bin-b09-windows-i586-p-19_dec_2007.exe

Epilogue:
FYI: I just realized that the same problem with AllChars also plagues Google EarthPro. Regards, EM
