View Full Version : Limited to 5 Simultaneous Downloads

Hello everyone,

Title says it all ; I'm having a problem with LimeWire PRO 4.18.8

Every time I get over 5 simultaneous downloads, the 6th one goes to 'Queued'

I have 'Tools - Options - Downloads' set to 8 Maximum Downloads, but somehow it's always stuck at 5...

I tried everything ; restarting, setting it higher than 8, still the same thing...

Is this happening to anyone else?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Thank you!

Is your connection type set to broadband or modem?
(Modem settings are lower, of course.)

When a download queues, is it because you are already downloading another file from the same guy?
(No point in extra connections to the same guy because speeds stay the same anyway.)

When it happens, are your downloads already running at high speeds.
(Again, no point in slowing downloads to fit one more in, so LimeWire doesn't.)

The third situation is the most likely. LimeWire automatically avoids oversaturating your connection
because overall speeds would drop and all the downloads would take longer as well as each one taking
longer by sharing your limited bandwidth.

Hello Aaron!

Thanks for your helpful reply even though I just realized I might have posted my issue in the wrong forum.

So anyways:

Is your connection type set to broadband or modem? (Modem settings are lower, of course.)

By modem you meant Dial Up?
The 2 options I see are Dial Up and Broadband, and yes, I have mine set up at Broadband.
My Internet is modem cable ; 7mb/s Download speed.

No, all my downloads are from different sources, not the same guy.

It happens at any time, doesn't seem to matter if my downloads are running at high speeds, speed is going from say 5kb/s to 500kb/s (on 5 simultaneous downloads). And even if that was the case, I believe this should be a decision I'd be doing ; not LimeWire's.

So yeah.. if nothing works I'll try reinstalling.

I've never had this problem in the past, any more tips would be appreciated.

Thanks again

Well then maybe it's the other end that is queueing your downloads. I get that all the time.
Some people just try to share too much and end up with a constant traffic jam.

No, I know for sure that's not the reason.

Because lets say I have 5 downloads running and 10 on 'queued'
If I pause one of the running downloads, the next one that's 'queued' goes to 'loading sources' mode and starts downloading... so it's really a problem with LimeWire that's trying to limit my number of DLs

The maximum limit should be 10, as far as I know. Something is causing LimeWire to protect you from
overloading your bandwidth. Try moving limewire.props out of the settings folder with LimeWire shut down
and then watch it for changed behaviour. LimeWire 5 will probably behave differently too, if you want to
give it a try.

Yeah, I guess.. I really wonder why though.
Perhaps it's another one of these dumb Vista features  lol

Sorry for the question but, where exactly is this 'limewire.props' file located? I've run a search with no results found. In fact, there is no 'settings' folder in my LimeWire folder. Or did you mean the 'inspection.props' file? I've tried moving that one out of the folder, still the same thing.

I just finished installing LimeWire 5 and still no luck.. I changed the number of simultaneous downloads from 20 to 8 with the 'limit my bandwidth' checkbox unchecked, still doesn't work. So I guess this thread belongs in this category after all.

As a side note, little bug with the LimeWire website (The link forwards you to an invalid forum address), see this screenshot:

The page is accessed from: 'Download - Get LimeWire Pro - Already bought Pro? - Forum'

I'd really appreciate an answer from the officials on this one, as no one seems to know what is the problem for sure with my issue. I'd be glad to know if it's just an application bug, in that case I'll live with it, waiting for it to get fixed. It's getting rather frustrating to not know what to do and where the problem comes from.

Thanks again

In Vista, the settings folder is C:\Users\[yoour name]\AppData\Roaming\Limewire. It's hidden too, so
in an Explorer window to to the Tools menu, then "Folder options" and in the View tab set it to "Show
hidden files and folders". the file called "limewire.props has all of your settings so move it somewhere
out of the way and try again.

If you have Viosta Home, yes, performance is heavily crippled to 5 or less half-open connections at a
time. I don't know whether LimeWire detects that specific limitation because it is a new one.

The forum location changed last night. Somebody still has to sweep up the outdated links scattered here and there.

This is NOT a Vista problem as it is happening to me under XP pro. Also the not so stellar LW Pro support team has not responded to me in 3 days - I am a new purchaser (it seems they have taken my $35 and retired on it). I will be switching back to my VUZE as it allows me to do whatever I wish and actually has an interface that puts the info you need on one screen. What were they thinking when they designed 5? It is almost as if they were paying too much attention to the search engine. Anyone who has been doing this long enough uses torrent sites anyways. Too bad LW has a no return policy because they certainly are not worth a penny. Actually now I see why they do. I will have to go through the unfortunate fight of disputing this on my CC as I have certainly not received ANYTHING for my $35.

EDITED - THIS IS NOT a 5 prob. I switched back to 4.x and this is still happening.

Move the settings file out again. That'll make sure it's not caused by settings left behind by LimeWire 5.
