View Full Version : BUG: Pressing OK in the options menu

Hi
Just installed the latest version of LimeWire Pro.
There's a bug when I change some of the options in the Options menu (advanced tab) then I held down OK. Then I moved my mouse off of it (without actually clicking it) and the program froze.
Didn't go white or anything, it's just that I was unable to use any part of the program or click anything. Also the searches I was doing in the background had stopped.
Please fix this bug in your next LimeWire Pro release.
Thanks in advance,
Panarchy

Could tell me the steps you used to reproduce this bug?
I have tried what you have described so far. But have not been able to reproduce the behavior you describe. Any help would be appreciated.
Could you tell me specifically what settings you have changed in the advanced section of the options dialog?

Basic debugging info will be necessary too, like the version of Java and operating system.

Tools->Options->Advanced->System
Change some setting, click <OK> but don't press it down, move the mouse away. LimeWire will freeze.
Hmm... just tried to reproduce the bug, doesn't seem to be happening again. Maybe it only occurs on first run.

Hi Panarchy,
Thanks for the report. We're pretty sure figured out what was causing the problem. We believe it has to do with the folders that are managed and how the code was checking them for changes. If there was a managed folder with many subfolders it could freeze the UI. It should be fixed in the next release.

I just upgraded from version 4.18 to 5.0.11 and I am having a problem with Limewire freezing up when I go to the Options menu and try to access the settings for Downloads and Uploads. The program freezes up on me, and the only way to exit is to hit Control Alt Delete.
The rest of the Options work fine.
I uninstalled Limewire and reloaded the 4.18 version, and this is also happening in that version.
Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Staci

Hi, I have a similar problem and didn't think it was necessary to start a new thread. I recently updated my 4.xx limewire to the newest 5.0.11 and for some reason the "OK"(or apply don't know which) button in preferences wasn't working at all. I started a thread with all the info on gnutellaforums (http://www.gnutellaforums.com/general-mac-osx-support/90780-finish-ok-buttons-not-working.html) and they couldn't find the culprit. I'm on an Intel Mac (Leopard) with the java 6 thing; I tried deleting limewires preferences to start over and now it wont let me press "Finish" on the beginning preferences, not allowing me to get into limewire at all. I've never had a problem with limewire before but when I got instructions on how to downgrade, the same problem occurred with the 4.xx one. Limewire gave me a bug report (that I posted on gnutella) and can re-post if that would help.

If you could repost the bug here, that would be helpful, Speedyrel.
Re: the OK stalling -- we already have a fix written and will release a version with it very soon.

Here it is. Had to attach it because it's too long. It's not only the "OK" button, it happens to me on the "Finish" button as well.

Hello, and thanks very much to you guys for the help. Will this fix the problem I am having in the 4.18.8 version? I like that version better than the new 5. It is easier to use, and it loads in 30 seconds as opposed to the over 5 minutes for the new version on my computer. I am using Windows XP Service Pack 3 as my OS.

No, sorry, it won't fix things in 4.18. However, we've put a lot of effort into reducing startup time in 5.0, so the next release should speed that up for you.

Ok, thanks! I noticed when I opened that zip file, it looked like it was for a MAC os, is this true?

I was thinking that he posted a patch or something, and it was only the bug on a word doc, the attached Zip file in Speedyrel's message. I was confused, but I understand now what I was looking at. Sorry! :)

Yea, it was a bug report that I copied on my mac. It was originally in RTF(rich text format) but that isn't supported on the uploader and my word doc was too big, so I zipped it. Sorry :D!

That's quite alright, I was in a hurry and not reading everything very carefully!

Finish and OK buttons not working!!! (http://www.gnutellaforums.com/general-mac-osx-support/90780-finish-ok-buttons-not-working.html) seems to be an account specific issue. But still, seems like some kind of bug that may affect others at some stage. And hey, we all know how great Mac OSX Java 6 is. lol :D :p

I just wonder why it happened all of the sudden, with both the 4 and the 5 version! I dont have any prob with the buttons you do, only the upload and download in the Options. WEIRD!
I have never used a mac, kind of curious about them though. Is it true once you try them you won't go back to a PC?

New question.
I just reinstalled version 5. Everything ok with it, no freezing and everything is working. BUT I need the link to the forum where we can complain about the features that are missing that make using it really annoying...

** Off topic islandtreasures reply **Once you go mac you dont go back! haha! Macs are great but are actuially exactly opposite from PCs. The "start menu" is at the top, the "x" button to exit a window is on the top left, but Macs are almost 100% virus free (or at least I have never even herd of a mac virus other than the newton virus which I want to have). I wouldnt reccomend them to a total PC gamer though (barely any game support).

Ok, thanks! I started downloading music and the first thing I notice is that there are not the search options that 4.18 has, such as the genre, title, artist. Then I notice while I was going through the listed results of my search, I can no longer right click on one of them and bring up a menu for other search options. I really used that alot. And then when I was previewing a song, the player doesn't seem to have a stop button, only a pause button! I wanted to stop it, but couldn't!
Thanks for letting me vent! :)

The time from when I click on Limewire to start the program, until it is fully connected and able to use: 23 minutes.
14 minutes to open it, 9 minutes to get a connection. This is every time, give or take a minute either way.
