View Full Version : Changing default directory not allowed...

I'm running Windows 7 x64 and Limewire 5.0.11 is not letting me use my D drive to store the music I download. It's saying "Cannot save there, reverting directory" and it's really annoying. Why in hell wouldn't it let me just change the directory I want it stored in? There's no permission crap on my windows cause UAC is disabled, and I save bunch of other stuff and use other programs to download stuff into my D drive.
Actually, it ONLY lets me save in a directory within the Limewire directory. Why would I be limited to this?
Edit: On the beta it allowed me and I thought it was fixed the thingy about asking about downloads, now I am completely prohibited to save outside the limewire directory?

We haven't really tested any Windows 7 interactions yet, sorry. We'll have to grab a copy from somewhere and fix up LimeWire to work with it.

Hey Sam, :)
Thanks for the quick response, it's just very strange since Vista and Windows 7 are quiet similar (almost same kernel and structure), not sure why it wouldn't want to work. It used to work just fine on Windows Vista x64.

Due to quirks of various operating systems, there's checks in LimeWire that say, "If you're XP, do this, if you're Vista, do that, if you're OS X do this, if you're Linux, do that..." There's very few of these checks, but if put in the wrong place, things can be a little confusing.

Ok, I just formatted to Vista x64 and it's also happening. It wasn't happening on the beta's so something just went wrong on the final.

I think there's some sandboxing still in place even without UAC running.
Try setting LimeWire's properties to allow it to run as an admin user.
It will ask for your admin password when you run it, but it will probably get access to D:.

Doesn't work, but as I mentioned, it did work on Vista x64 during the beta, now it stopped working.

Look in the Event Log in Windows' Administration Tools to see if there are any errors or warnings at the
exact same time as the problem. It may lead straight to the answer you need.

I think it turned out to be a false alarm. That wannabe hacker
caused his own problems and misunderstood what was going on.
