Reddragon, see the other connections-related threads for instructions from mrrogers.

Scorpio, we would need some diagnostics info, such as what kind of computer you are using and the
version numbers of it's operating system and Java engine. Also, if you are using Windows Vista, you
apparently have to log in as an administrator to install anything properly.

I'm having the same issue aas scorpio. The program itself is working just fine but the start up screen that keeps saying "souring for limes" doesn't not dissappear even if limewire is not running. I'm aslo using windows vista. I don't think the actual type of computer matters, why would it? This is extremely frustrating. I have the latest version of Java. I own an HP laptop, model dv6000. I also have adminstrator privlages on it. Please help!

Your problem is new. Scorpio couldn't get it started at all.
Does LimeWire still work normally while the splash stays visible?

I as well have the same problem. I am using vista business on an acer aspire 5515. When i click limewire the loading box comes up but it just stays stuck on "Scouring NYC for limes" not sure what the problem is. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling limewire 3 times and still I could not run it.

Looks like it's a new bug with 5.1.2 and Vista.

Do any error logs show up in the LimeWire program's folder?
They look something like this: hs_err_pid3188.log

Go to your Pro download page and see if there's a Pro version of the 5.2.5 beta.

f.y.i. I'm PRO 5.2.5 and have a "similar" problem. Once in a while it will just come up, say it's "scouring nyc for limes" and then just hang there.

My solution is to keep on clicking on the LW icon, as though I want multiple copies of LW running (which it won't do, of course). It finally gives up on hanging and just comes up the rest of the way. Why? I donno....

I wish that startup sequence was more informative. The original purpose of such things
was so that people could see where the startup failed. I am sure that there could be
dozens of messages displayed on that spot and it wouldn't matter that they flash by too
quickly to see when everything is working.

To everyone who's having the 'Scouring NYC for Limes' problem: there are a couple of reasons this might be happening. First, there might be another instance of LW running in the background (maybe an older version that needs to be uninstalled, or maybe LW is set to run automatically at startup). When you run LW it should detect that there's already an instance running, but we've recently found and fixed some bugs in that part of the program, so please try the latest beta (http://www.limewire.com/download/releases/latest_beta).

The second reason this might be happening is that LW's built-in browser is failing to load. If upgrading to the latest beta doesn't solve your problem, try adding the line USE_MOZILLA=false to the limewire.props file in your LW settings folder (search the forums for information on how to find the settings folder on your OS). That will disable the built-in browser, which means you won't be able to visit the LW store, but it should enable you to get past the 'Scouring NYC for Limes' stage.

I did exactly that but still landed with the same reply - scouring NYC for limes...the tragedy of the system is that LW was working perfectly till I had to come up with a paid extension!!

Did you try adding USE_MOZILLA=false to limewire.props?
If you did, "scouring NYC for limes" should not appear at all.

Thanks for the feedback, but can you tell me how do I do this!! I am sorry I am a novice!!

For the sake of "newbies" any chance of explaining how to locate that so ya don't have a bunch people tearing their hair out performing the suggested "search the forums".

As "she" would say: "thank you, ever so much". :)

FWIW, there will be other side-effects of disabling it (more than just "won't see the store"). You won't be able to login to the friends features using Facebook, and the LimeWire homepage will look a lot worse.

Login at startup still works with Jabber and the LimeWire homepage actually
looks pretty nice this way, though there is nothing to click on:

This looks like it could become a popular performance enhancement for
those who don't miss the Store and the animations on the Home page.

in the right folder. It doesn't appear to matter where in limewire.props you put
the new line.
