How does limewire know which files are the same files?

I would like to know how limewire identifies one file with another, when under the # sign I have the number of times that same file exists.

what are the parameters that it runs to check that?

is it just file name and size?

If you look at it closely not all filenames are the same. The file hashes are same. Hence it can be grouped together as the same file.
