I'm sharing about 4k files at home, and have 2k other things loaded, and keep LW running all day & night. Haven't noticed any bad performance with it. It might be related to general OS X sluggishness that we're working on.

All others seem fine. Is there no Chat option now? If it is auto-on without option to turn off I would not complain about that. lol
Chat with random Gnutella users is cut for 5.0. Sorry -- it's pretty much the singular feature that actually got the axe. We couldn't think of a good way to integrate it without confusing people. We'll re-add it in future release.

Sorry, you're getting confused between programs. :-/ . No such luck just yet -- perhaps in the future. Password-controlled controls are hard to do right, because they can cause endless headaches for people that forgot the passwords.

Also Browse?
Yes, it is an option already -- albeit one that's completed undocumented. You can type p2p://ip:port in the search bar and it'll direct-connect to that person. (You can also type an email address and it'll try to do a friend browse.) Browse is an option from clicking the dropdown on the sources of search results.

Only Sharing 24 files using the LW 5 Alpha !!? -> one user with share files issues.

I will give a response to your questions a little later.

BTW is there another alpha or beta coming out? Since the Mac OSX version is a little under weather lol .. it'd be good to try an updated version, especially in regards to connecting.

Re: LW custom Descriptions: No, none of the LW 4 descriptions are showing for me for the alpha. It's simply not reading them at all.

And .. is Mac OSX's Java 6 really 'that bad'? LW works fine for me with LW 4 with large shares. Alpha really struggles with over 2 K files or perhaps even over 1.5 k files. My LW 4.16.6 presently shares almost 7 K files though have shared up to 12 K without issues. My 'other' startup drive LW 4.18 shared around 3.5 k files from memory (before using the alpha).

oops didn't see your 2nd post. Will respond later.

My LW 4.16.6 is using Java 1.5.0_16 ... I presume my LW 4.18.8 was doing the same on the other start up drive (never checked.)

* If you re-introduce Chat & I hope you do (had some greatly interesting chat convo's lately with sharers of hard to find files [they sent the initial chat invite]), I hope it does not become like FW's version. I found that a turn off personally. That was one reason I stopped using FW's program regularly (except as an extra tool in search for rare files occasionally.)

We just released a newer alpha version that fixes some problems. You can get it at http://www.limewire.com/download/alphaversion.php . We'll update the list of fixed issues (and still pending issues) and notify existing Alpha users soon.

Thanks for helping!

Are you going to add the "Connect" and "Disconnect" option?

Does it say "No Internet Connection" (or something similar) in the bottom tray after it disconnects? I think the plan is to add a "Try Again" option or something like that in the tray when it says that.

Nevermind, it was only in version 5.02, i'm glad you fixed the reconnect issue. Other than that, it's a very stable release other than the fact that sometimes it goes to 100,000K but now it's running around 68,000K I'm really like this one over the other one not only because the new interface but that there isn't the "Search & Library" tabs because sometimes when i would first load up LimeWire on startup, it would be slow once it loaded the promotion thing and also it would be slow when i clicked on the folder where all my music is stored. And I'm also glad that the message box when you first loaded LimeWire up that asked if you want to purchase LimeWire, now you can click "hide"

The only thing that i can think of that would be an interesting feature would being able to have a filter where it has different types of filters like in adblockplus where you can download a filter to filter out certain ads and there's like a new update every day, i wish that LimeWire could have a filter like this that filters out annoying downloads that appear in the search.

One more thing i found out, when you try dragging the slider on the player when you're playing a song, it won't lock on to the point where you want to play it from, it will just go back to it's original position. I hope you know what i mean by this.

Yes this is a bug. The old seeking feature will be reintroduced in the next release
