Unhappy Parental Control Password Protection for Filters

I've been requesting for this feature on limewire forums for months, if not years. Could someone please write some code that would enable us to password protect the settings or at least the filters in limewire since I don't want any family members seeing/downloading porn and sh!t.

Default need password protection

Dudeman,
I totally agree I would like to see some password protection code written. They update everything else. This needs to be done to help ensure that kids don't change or disable the filters and download porn.

Default Password for filters NEEDED!!!

Yes I agree that some code to make the filters password protected would be great. It would ease the criticism of Limewire by parents who don't want their kids downloading porn and other objectionable material.

It's just not going to happen. I've waited and waited for this feature but guys at limewire just don't want to listen. They don't want to password protect anything because this would hurt them. They want more people to share files and password protecting settings would keep a good majority (mainly kids) out of the equation. I sometimes wonder whether this software is actually targeted at kids.

This is the only thing that is stopping me from upgrading to pro. So they are actually losing a large population of adults who'd want control over limewire. Let's face it, it's the adults who would actually purchase the Pro version and not the kids.

Something to think about.

There's just no way something like that could be locked
down in an open source program. Even the closed source
BearShare couldn't be locked up in that particular way
without it being ridiculously easy to circumvent.

There is no simple technologically provided way to
substitute for actual parental supervision. The best way to
keep it clean is to put the internet connected computer in
family areas with the video screen turned so nobody can
hide what is on display. Ask any so-called "experts" and
they will have to concede that you are the one who is
responsible and you are the one who has to take charge.

I find that a very bizarre reply. I don't see why open source guidelines demand that everything has to be left without a password. If that was the case, then there would be no such thing has open source encryption, or open source folder locking utilities, or any other password protected utilities!

Besides, no one is asking for the whole program to be password protected, but only the settings, or maybe even just the filter options only.

No one is also asking for a ridiculously sophisticated method of password protection! Even the most basic method will suffice. Anything is better that not having password protection at all!

And of course actual parental supervision can't be substituted. No one is asking for a complete substitution either. But the arguments you have given above sound very pessimistic like "Oh every password protection can be bypassed, no one can replace parental supervision so lets just forget about all that and don't bother trying to take the slightest steps towards this" lol". Yes, that is how you sounded.

I'm sorry, but I need a response from actual developers, and not from a moderator of a forum!

Maybe you can try Children Control. It's a great parent control software to control children's access to PC.

That's not a solution to my problem though is it? I already have excellent parental controls for my PC.

My concern is only with Limewire, not my PC in general. Please read the first post before replying.

Parental Control in Kidsemail.org is one of the new feature that I will likely recommend to parents. It allows a parent to configure various restrictions on what their kids can do on the computer. Through kidsemail.org they should use Internet content filtering then personally guide the kids. Don't leave kids unattended even they are at home only in front of the computer with internet connection.
