what measures does Limewire intend to take to prohibit the distribution of child pornography? I am aware of arguments against censoring p2p - eg. once you start, where do you draw the line. However, this is particularly nasty material which I suspect is easy to distribute via Limewire. A quick search for terms relating to child porn seems to yield quite a number of pictures and movies - is this not of concern to anyone at Limewire?

Go to the beta forum and start participating in testing of the new junk/spam
filtering options.

my filter doesnt even work. i saw adverstising and i blocked the words in the name and it still shows up in my results

the filter is disabled for "What's New" and "Browse Host" results.

For others, it works well and follows the settings in the Options.

I think one way is to have filters that automaticly Detects and deletes pornagraphy and bannes the host who uploaded the porn

I WAS HORRIFIED TODAY WHEN I WAS DOWNLOADING PORN FROM LIMEWIRE, I OPENED 1 OF THE FILES & IT WAS OBVIOUS CHILD PORN IM TALKING 10 YRS OLD!! WHAT DOES LIMEWIRE DO ABOUT THIS?? WELL NOT MUCH AS FAR AS I CAN SEE.

I DID NOTICE THIS WHEN I SIGNED UP TO USING THE FORUMS WHICH SHOULD BE PART OF ALL THE LIMEWIRE POLICY.

I agree Kath, And I am put off by SHOUTED messages and people who blame Limewire for what is on the network. But the poster has a right to be heard.. not sure how many views or responses it will pick up here.

Just 2 points. Limewire cannot control what is on the network. Yes words and titles can be filtered, but much of this filth comes under innocent miss-titles.

We will certainly not allow alleged guilty ips to be published unless we consider it a good idea.. you may report these to the authorities as you wish.. but rememberthat one child porn film on an ip's share, does not mean that person is guilty of anything. It may be there accidentally ..as was indeed the one you found.

To my knowledge this beta forum is not for discussing gnutella network content. Similar issues have been discussed in the past at the Gnutella forums. If you search Gnutella forums you will find threads that discuss this topic. And as suggested by Kath, there's avenues for reporting such. ip's should not be posted in public regardless of whether the person accidentally or purposefully shares such material or other types of offensive material.

I agree. Better yet, the police should be called in addition to banning them.
I can't believe others are suggesting merely blocking the porno...how does that solve the problem by pretending it isnt there????
