LW freezes a good many times when I try to run it.
It happens while loading and I have to re-start the computer to fix it. Any suggestions for a permanent fix? |

The next beta should be available soon. Your problem may have been fixed in that one.
Since you forgot to mention what kind of computer you have or what version of OS is running on it, I can't even begin to guess at any fixes. |

Try downloading the latest offline installer for the Java runtime environment from Sun [it's
about 15-16 megabytes] install it and reboot before trying LimeWire. |

Would this be necessary even if the previous version (LW 4) was running ok?

LimeWire 5 needs a newer version of Java than LimeWire 4 does.
I'm guessing that a fresh install will help you, even if you do have the latest Java. The next beta LimeWire 5.2.0 just came out too. I'm going to try it right now. |

I've just installed the latest version of Java as you sugessted and tried to run LW afterwards. It still freezes while loading. It happened 2 out of three times.
How did it go for you with new LW 5 latest version? |

Pretty good. No problems yet.
Try deleting your settings folder. First, go to Start => Control Panel => Folder Options => Click on "View" tab => Enable "Show Hidden Files and Folders" To delete the folder: 1. Start - click on Computer 2. In left hand sidebar click on your user name. 3. Find "Apps Data" (should be at the top of this list) and click on it 4. You should have a folder called Roaming. Click on it. 5. Look for the LimeWire folder - right-click on it and delete it. |

Hi Aaron. Thank you for the information.
Would you please enlighten me? What will happen when I delete mentioned folder. Isn't the information contained in it needed by LW in order to run adequately? |

Not really. It contains settings but LimeWire automatically creates the folder the first time
it is run and whenever it is missing. Quite often when Limewire is acting up and it isn't obvious why this resets it and the problem goes away. If you had added extra shared folders you'll have to add them again but that's pretty much all you would notice, other than that it starts working again. |
