We've just released the first beta for the LimeWire 5.2 series. You can download the free version from: http://www.limewire.com/download/betaversion.php . PRO users can find it on your personal download page.
This beta contains just some of the changes we're planning to go into the final 5.2 release. There's lots of changes under the hood to speed things up and some major visual changes too. Here's a list of some changes that are in the first 5.2 beta release: * Redesigned the download tray. * Added advanced search result filters (filter by file size!) * Improved search tabs (so more than 3 show if the screen is big, and less than 3 show if the screen is small) * Improved spam detection and the beginnings of new virus detection. * Lots of memory & speed improvements. * Various other bug-fixes. We put together a page on the wiki @ http://wiki.limewire.org/index.php?t...eWire_5.2_Beta that describes some of the changes with screenshots. We have a lot of amazing things planned for 5.2 that will be coming soon. We're rewriting BitTorrent support to use libtorrent under the hood, getting rid of the persistent sidebar on the left, adding browse host from uploads & downloads, adding the ability to create multiple playlists and share those lists with any number of friends, and adding more support for more social connections... Let us know what you think on the forums here @ http://forum.limewire.org/forumdisplay.php?f=75 . Thanks to everyone for your help in beta testing and feedback! Woo, thanks Sam and the LimeWire team!
![]() Thank you so much for the enter key fix! The only other thing I'm looking forward to is to disable songs from playing automatically(you click a song, it ends, then it plays the next song, the next song, etc). Other than that, the speed is noticeable. I like the filters and I can guarantee that everyone else will. I mainly would use the bitrate filter, to get high quality files.

I like the search result filters & displays to the left (similar to LW 4). And the option to use size & bitrate & length filters, & quality filter for video. Size filter is something many people have wanted for a long time. These filters make it so much easier & faster sorting through the search results.
![]() Download window at front makes it easier for users. Always visible. Quality for video? Is it a combination of file size & view dimensions? I was surprised to have LW cancel an MPeg video file at 100% completion with a message it was Dangerous. Ok it was only 11 MB or so, so was most likely spam. It appears it was deleted from my computer without me doing anything (not even in recycle bin or incomplete/download folders). How does LW detect it was a bad file? And can it be right 100% of the time? If it were an wmv or mov file for sure, but this was mpg (unless the true extension was hidden.) Oh just noticed it is now marked as Spam. Question is, how did LW detect this, & why did it not detect it earlier or even before the download started? I notice LW has changed incomplete folder name to Partials. Glad you like it, LOTR.
I'm not sure what the quality for video is comprised of, actually. As far as detecting malicious files... the deleting of files is going to be correct 100% of the time, and unfortunately cannot be fully done until the download is completed. (We can look into how to speed it up, though.) I'm actually very excited at the prospect of this protecting users from viruses. It's going to be a great improvement. |

Will that apply to Mac OSX users also about the malicious files? Since OSX users do not normally need to be so concerned about viruses unless they move the file to a windows system.
From what I could see about video quality, dimensions seemed to be the main key, however I suspect not the only one. |

We do the malicious file check on all platforms - even if a file can't infect your computer it could infect other people if re-shared.

I'm proud of the malicious file feature. I think that since this is going to be used, less people will be complaining that LimeWire is full of viruses. Also, the spam filter does a good job at removing a bunch of spam.
Just a suggestion, I think that somewhere in the install it should mention that you should install an anti-virus(if you don't already), before downloading from LimeWire. Or something along those lines. ![]()

Viruses is a windows problem. lol
Get a mac & never look back. ![]() BTW .. any word on ability to resume files if the person has a severe crash? This was always a possibility in LW 4. Else a backup of download prefs option, similar to what an osx user created for osx users a few years ago, hosted at the gnut forums. (ie: the download prefs backup is stored in a different location.) Occasionally we get queries about this issue at GF. How to resume files in this scenario. At present there are no options for the LW 5 user. Oh & you guys probably gave up on this thread ages ago, but I believe a valid point from my experience http://forum.limewire.org/showpost.p...&postcount=208 (LW 4 - 5 continuous download breaks, possibly a LW 5 issue by itself with downloads) But I do like the new option in LW 5.2 for attempting to continue downloads. I hope that will help here.Last edited by Lord of the Rings; May 19th, 2009 at 11:10 PM. |

I don't have any problems with viruses because i have protection. I'm just concerned with the people that always argue about LimeWire being full of viruses.

LOTR, which option do you mean for attempting to continue downloads?
